Entry #2

Dates: 8/8/17-8/30/17
Activities: Setting up website and social media pages and contacts
Technical Information: Blue host, Weebly, Instagram, Facebook
Reflection: I quickly caught on to the fact that the start of this internship would be disorganized. Since my supervisor (Brandy) doesn't know how to set up a web site, I was pretty much on my own. In last months discussion, she told me what her focus was for her web site and which businesses she wanted to have higher priority. The businesses with the higher priority are the ones that aren't released yet. She created the Be Box, which is a subscription box full of beauty products, or other self-care/help items that she wants to sell. The Be Box wont be going live until October, so right now I am in charge of setting up a social media following and getting a online store up and running by then. The other business is a yoga studio that her and her partner were only given the keys to the studio less than a month ago and needs a lot of work.

Since Brandy has an idea of what she wants, she gives me an outline of expectations for what is posted to each page, and asks for any design suggestions. Since I had already created the web site and the social media pages weeks ago, It was time for me to start filling them out and posting more frequently. Brandy had given me a copy of the content she wanted on each site, and gave me a week to get all the information posted and laid out properly. I was posting what her businesses were about on her website and posting update pictures and sneak peak pictures of items coming to the subscription box. I was also in charge of find her profile pictures that represented her businesses accordingly.

The work atmosphere is comfortable and accepting. Brandy doesn't have an official place that I work, since she shares her studio with some one else, and the yoga studio isn't open yet either. I am not treated as an intern, but rather as a partner. Brandy creates the content she wants posted online, but she still asks for opinions and allows me to make suggestions about the content. The work ethic right now is not very organized, but I'm sure that as soon as her businesses start running, it will become more organized. All decisions made are cooperative, and Brandy wants me to feel comfortable expression my thoughts and opinions, and be confident enough to ask any questions if I have some. Currently I do not have a dress code, I am sure when I have a location to go to work I will have one.
